What to do instead

The urge is a wave. It crests and breaks in a few minutes. Your only job is to be somewhere else when it does. Start at the top.

Right now — 60 seconds

Break the loop physically

  • Stand up. Cold water on your face.
  • Do 20 push-ups, or just walk to another room.
  • The wave peaks and passes. Outlast it — you only have to win the next few minutes.

Reach a real human

  • Text one person literally anything. "Hey, how's your day?" counts.
  • Leave the room your device is in. Take the moment with you.

Today

Change the environment

  • Charge your phone in another room overnight. Most slips are late and in bed.
  • Install a blocker (Cold Turkey, or a DNS filter). Make the bad path require effort.

Touch one hobby

  • Instrument, gym, sketchbook, run, code, cook — pick one and do ten honest minutes.
  • The goal isn't to be good. It's to prove the time can go somewhere better.

This week

Know your triggers

  • Bored? Tired? Stressed? 11pm? Write down when it usually hits.
  • Plan one replacement for each trigger before it arrives.
  • Set reminders for your high-risk times so future-you gets a nudge.

Beat isolation

  • Have one real conversation about something that matters.
  • Join a community that's in it with you: r/pornfree and r/NoFap are large, supportive, and free.

If it's bigger than a habit

If you've tried to stop many times and can't, that's not weakness — it's a sign to get backup. Compulsive sexual behavior is a real, recognized thing, and therapists treat it (CBT and ACT both help). Groups like SAA exist too. Asking for help is the strong move, not the weak one.
